PhysicsWallah Q2 FY27: Profit Doubles as South India and AI Scale

The short answer
PhysicsWallah Limited reported record quarterly revenue of ₹1,242 crore in Q2 FY27 and doubled profit after tax to ₹142 crore from ₹70 crore a year earlier, according to its 4 November 2026 stock-exchange press release. For the half year, PAT flipped to a ₹55 crore profit from a ₹57 crore loss in H1 FY26. Management pointed to a rebound in NEET enrolments, broader online categories, South India expansion, and a forthcoming wider launch of its AI tutor Tuto.
After the Byju’s-era edtech crash, this is the other end of the spectrum: a listed, cash-rich test-prep company showing that affordable, tech-led coaching can print operating profit.

The quarter in one table
Online revenue grew 26% to ₹694 Cr (Pre-IndAS EBITDA margin 34.4%). Offline revenue grew 9% to ₹541 Cr; the H1 offline Pre-IndAS EBITDA loss narrowed to ₹108 Cr from ₹120 Cr.

Why profit came back
Three drivers show up in the company release and Business Standard coverage:
NEET cycle normalised. Q1 had been hit by the NEET UG postponement. In Q2, NEET enrolments grew over 30% as deferred demand arrived. Online H1 revenue grew 29%, ahead of H1 online collections growth of 17%, because fees are recognised over the course term.
Categories beyond JEE–NEET. In H1, non-JEE/NEET categories were 73.8% of online enrolments (up from 64.8%). Boards and CUET enrolments rose 130% to 4.55 lakh; foundation +15% to 5.70 lakh; vernacular +77% to 1.23 lakh across 10 languages; skills (including Earners) grew 10.3× to 1.69 lakh.
Cost discipline. Employee costs fell to 42.3% of H1 revenue from 44.6%; other expenses to 23.4% from 24.6%.
Alakh Pandey, founder and CEO, said the quarter showed “the strength of our model” with record revenue, sharper profitability, and a widening learner base across K-12, vernacular and new categories.
South India as the next growth leg
The press release flags South India — Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala — as an addressable market of about 15 million students. In H1:
the region contributed 9% of revenue
PW had 63 centres across the south
app learners from the region rose 32% to 4.1 lakh; paid learners +14% to 1.17 lakh
the company cited 70+ regional-language faculty and free learning via roughly 20 lakh YouTube subscribers on 24+ channels
KCET ranks under 5,000 rose to 79 from 53 a year earlier
That is a deliberate online-first playbook into a geography historically dominated by local coaching brands.
AI tutor Tuto
On the Q2 earnings call, as summarised by Investing.com, PhysicsWallah said its Socratic, voice-enabled AI tutor Tuto is live in pilot with more than 5,000 learning hours logged, with a broader launch planned around Vishwas Diwas. Management described support for multiple Indic languages and an initial focus on grades 6–12 plus JEE and NEET. Treat call commentary as directional until the next formal filing updates product metrics.

Lessons after the edtech wipeout
Affordable test prep with hybrid delivery can be profitable when category mix expands beyond one exam cycle.
Listing cash is a strategic asset. ₹5,268 Cr treasury buys time to open centres and fund AI without emergency dilution.
Regional vernacular is not a CSR slide — it showed up as 77% enrolment growth and a named South India P&L contribution.
Contrast with Byju’s is structural: PW’s model emphasises teaching density and cash discipline over acquisition sprees.
